Everything below describes how Newsido actually works today. If your question is not here, email [CONTACT EMAIL] and we will answer it — and add it to this page.
No. You can read Newsido without one. An account is what makes it yours: your own feed, saved stories, Your Day, the daily audio bulletin, Puzzles, Predictions and notifications all need to know who you are. Signing up is free.
Either an email address and a password, or "Continue with Google". Google sign-in is quicker: your name, email and profile picture come across and you skip the sign-up steps entirely. Either way you are given a starting set of channels to follow so that the feed is not empty on day one.
Use the "forgot password" link on the sign-in screen and we will email you a reset link. If you originally signed up with Google you do not have a Newsido password — use the Google button. You can set a password later through the reset link if you would rather sign in that way too.
A channel is a subject: Fuel & Driving, Energy Bills, The Pound & Interest Rates, Food Prices, Jobs & Wages, Housing & Mortgages, Transport, Crime & Safety, UK Politics, Around You, Films, Cars, AI & Tech, Sport and more. They are grouped into Money, Home, Politics and Interests.
Open a channel and use Follow, or manage the whole list from your interests. Your Home feed is built from the channels you follow, so if Home looks wrong, that list is the thing to change. One exception: a genuinely major story is pinned to the top of Home for everyone for a few hours, whether or not you follow its channel.
Deliberately. What happened, what it means for you, what to watch, and a question. The publisher's name and a link to the original are always on the card. Some of the "what it means for you" section is held back until you sign in, because the account is free and it is the one thing we ask for.
An AI model, from the article the publisher published. Read the About page for what that means and what it costs you in accuracy. If a summary is wrong, tell us at [EDITORIAL EMAIL].
So that Around You can show your council's announcements, your local paper, crime figures for your area and a weekly local round-up. We store only the first half — the outward code, like "RM3" — and the district it belongs to. The full postcode is never saved.
Pick your area from the list instead. Nothing is looked up and no postcode is involved.
On a first visit we make one rough guess from your IP address so that Around You is not empty. It is often approximate. Tap the banner and correct it — your choice replaces the guess and we stop guessing.
Change it any time from the Around You banner. To remove it entirely, clear Newsido's cookies in your browser, or email [PRIVACY EMAIL] and we will delete the record held against your account.
Around You currently covers London boroughs and much of Essex and Kent, because that is where we have council and local news feeds. Pick the nearest listed area for now, and tell us where you are at [CONTACT EMAIL] — that is how we choose what to add next.
A short stack built for you each morning: your top local story, then stories from the channels you follow. It is the same selection you would have found by scrolling, put in one place.
The daily audio bulletin: those same stories, read aloud, a few minutes end to end. It is built overnight from the story text — nothing about you is spoken and no live microphone or camera is involved. Press Listen and it plays straight through.
Bulletins are made in the early hours for accounts that have one due. A brand-new account, or one following very few channels, may have to wait for the next overnight run.
Yes — the send time is a setting, and you can turn the morning notification off altogether while keeping the page.
One five-letter word a day, the same word for everybody, changing at midnight UK time. You get a fixed number of guesses and the colours tell you how close you were. You need an account, because a streak nobody owns is not a streak. The answer never leaves our server until your game is over, so there is nothing to find in the page.
A yes-or-no question attached to a story, with a date by which the answer will be known. Vote once — a vote cannot be changed — and when the date comes we resolve it and your score updates. Totals are shown; your individual vote is not published.
Ask a question about a story, or an open question in Explore, and you get an answer with the sources it came from. There is a daily limit per account, because each question costs us money. Your question is sent to our AI provider to be answered, so please do not type anything private into it. See section 7 of the Privacy Policy.
The quiet question at the bottom of a story. Your answer is private: the control shows you what you said and nothing else, and no other reader ever sees it. We look at the totals to decide which sources are earning their place. Tap again to change your mind.
Use the bookmark control on a story to save it, and find it again under Saved. Saved stories are private to you, and there is no limit. If a story is later corrected or removed, the saved copy follows the live one.
Genuinely big breaking stories, your morning Your Day, your weekly local round-up, a prediction you voted on being resolved, and any news alert word you have set. Each of these can be turned off separately in Settings.
Add a word or phrase — a company, a council, a road — and we will tell you when it turns up in a story. Add and remove them whenever you like.
Check two places: Newsido's own notification settings, and your phone's settings for the Newsido app. If the phone has denied notifications, nothing we do will get through. Push notifications are a mobile-app feature; the website does not send them.
Newsido has an app for iPhone and Android, linked from the footer of the site where it is available in your store. It signs in with the same account, shows the same feed, and it is where push notifications work. Everything on the website works on a phone browser too if you would rather not install anything.
Short clips chosen by hand. Every clip plays on its own platform, in their player — Newsido never hosts the video, so the creator keeps the view, the credit and the link back. That also means the platform sets its own cookies when you play one; see the Cookies Policy. If you are a creator and you would rather a clip of yours was not embedded, email [EDITORIAL EMAIL] and we will remove it.
Settings covers your name, username, bio, picture, cover image, email address and password. Most of the profile is optional and can stay empty.
Both are switchable, and both are remembered in a cookie on the device rather than in your account, so a different browser starts fresh.
Settings › delete account. You confirm with your password, and you can leave a message telling us why if you want to. It removes your profile, posts, saved stories, devices and settings. The Privacy Policy sets out exactly what is deleted and when.
Email [PRIVACY EMAIL] and we will send it. It is free and we will reply within a month.
